Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about NetRot
General
What is NetRot?
NetRot is a free Chrome extension that displays Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, and Metacritic ratings directly on Netflix. It helps you make informed decisions about what to watch by showing ratings from trusted sources without leaving Netflix.
Is NetRot really free?
Yes, 100% free! NetRot is completely free to use with no hidden fees, premium tiers, or in-app purchases. We believe everyone deserves to make informed viewing choices.
Which browsers are supported?
Currently, NetRot is available for Google Chrome. It should also work on Chromium-based browsers like Microsoft Edge and Brave.
Does NetRot work on mobile devices?
No, NetRot only works on desktop browsers. Mobile browsers don't support Chrome extensions. You can use NetRot on any desktop or laptop computer with Chrome installed.
Installation & Setup
How do I install NetRot?
1. Visit the Chrome Web Store.
2. Click "Add to Chrome".
3. Confirm the installation.
4. That's it! Open Netflix and you'll see ratings automatically.
Do I need to configure anything after installation?
NetRot works out of the box with no configuration needed. However, you can customize which ratings to show (IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic) by clicking the NetRot icon in your browser toolbar.
How do I uninstall NetRot?
Right-click the NetRot icon in your browser toolbar and select "Remove from Chrome", or go to chrome://extensions, find NetRot, and click "Remove".
Ratings & Accuracy
How accurate are the ratings?
Ratings are pulled directly from official sources (Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, Metacritic) through the OMDb API. They're updated regularly to ensure accuracy.
Why is a rating missing for some titles?
Not all content has ratings on every platform. Netflix originals, newer releases, and international content may have limited coverage in rating databases. If a rating isn't available, it simply won't be displayed.
Can I choose which ratings to display?
Yes! Click the NetRot icon in your browser toolbar to access settings. You can toggle each rating source (IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic) on or off independently.
Privacy & Security
Does NetRot collect my Netflix data?
No. NetRot only reads movie titles to fetch ratings. We don't access your account, viewing history, or any personal information. Your privacy is our priority. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Is my Netflix account safe?
Absolutely. NetRot never accesses your Netflix credentials or account information. We only read the titles of movies and shows displayed on the page to fetch ratings.
What permissions does NetRot require?
NetRot only requires access to netflix.com to inject rating overlays and storage permission to cache ratings locally. We request minimum permissions needed for the extension to function.
Troubleshooting
Ratings aren't showing. What should I do?
Try these steps:
1. Make sure the extension is enabled in chrome://extensions
2. Refresh the Netflix page
3. Check if ratings are toggled on by clicking the NetRot icon
4. Clear your browser cache and try again
5. Reinstall the extension
Will NetRot slow down Netflix?
Not at all! NetRot is optimized for performance with smart caching. Ratings are fetched in the background and cached locally, so there's no impact on your viewing experience.
How do I clear the rating cache?
Click the NetRot icon in your browser toolbar to open settings, then click "Clear Cache". This will remove all cached ratings and fetch fresh data on your next Netflix visit.
